Lots of questions about react native assume it's like other "JS for mobile apps" tools. Its literally native. Maybe think of it like swift?

@wycats titanium compiles JS to native code, react native runs the JS in a thread, then renders native UI components. -
@ryanflorence I guess I misunderstood Titanium :) -
@ryanflorence@ebryn how were you able to get Ember running in titanium back in the day if it's compiled? -
@wycats@ryanflorence the JS code you write is executed at runtime. it’s similar to react native. -
@ebryn@ryanflorence That's what I thought as well by people are saying it gets compiler. Maybe it changed? -
-
@ryanflorence@ebryn Cool. I'll investigate more. Curious. - 1 more reply

@wycats AFAICT (never used it) Titanium compiles down to C/Java but RN embeds a JS runtime, lets you use Native objects@ryanflorence -
@mjackson@ryanflorence BTW I really enjoyed your ReactConf talk. Love people preaching the URL gospel :) -
@wycats Thanks :) I learned a lot of what I know from you guys.@ryanflorence -
@mjackson@ryanflorence Did I understand correctly that Relay comes with its own router? Or can you use react-router? -
@wycats Yes, they have created their own router. We're working with them to make react-router work for their needs.@ryanflorence -
@mjackson@ryanflorence Sorry for asking so many questions. Can't look at code yet so relying on conf attendees for info :) -
@wycats AFAICT Relay is more of a spec for the query language right now. They are open to ideas about routing.@ryanflorence -
@mjackson@ryanflorence I thought that was GraphQL, no? And Relay a framework that uses GraphQL? I could be off the wall. - 1 more reply

@wycats Since React is very restrictive in its model, it can optimize the bridge substantially@ryanflorence -
@floydophone This is one of my fave parts about React's model. It creates so many opportunities for optimization.@wycats@ryanflorence -
@mjackson@floydophone@ryanflorence It's a good model :)

@wycats This programming model is pretty hard to make performant b/c it encourages chatter over the bridge@ryanflorence - 1 more reply
