      Size issues with ES6 module transpiler's AMD output found by @rwjblue; 7% overhead on .min.gz. My proposal:https://gist.github.com/joliss/9326213

      @jo_liss @rwjblue I suspect there's a viable hack that involves arguments. Also don't think whole-app-transpilation is viable.

          @wycats @rwjblue The idea of the closure trick was to have ES5 minifier work on import/export names. (Bummer it won't work performance-wise)

          @wycats @rwjblue @stefanpenner So if we do tricks with arguments, seems we're increasingly moving towards writing our own ad-hoc minifier.

          @jo_liss @rwjblue @stefanpenner no. We rely on gzip not minification.

          @wycats I don’t quite understand the arguments hack suggestion. When you have time, could you gist an example?

          @rwjblue the arguments hack is a middle ground that allows you to leave off the names (repeated arguments[n] is far more gzip friendly)

          @wycats @rwjblue I read that in V8 accessing `arguments` outside strict mode causes deopts. Might need to benchmark (on IE9- in particular).

          @wycats good idea. i think there is a solution, and unfortunately that solution will be a blocker it looks like @jo_liss @rwjblue

          @ebryn @wycats @jo_liss @rwjblue please remember, this enables us to add tooling that can prune library code that an app does not need.

          @stefanpenner in the future, sure. but that’s vaporware at this point in time and shouldn’t be a consideration @wycats @jo_liss @rwjblue

          @ebryn @stefanpenner @wycats @rwjblue Agree the size of the global distribution is the primary target we should be optimizing for right now.
