@mattknox but is there an ad hoc informally specified management there? -
@wycats I don't think so, no. As I understand it, there aren't people who always manage, but rather one's role varies by project. -
@mattknox I think you may be mistaken. How do you suspect information flows to people with hiring and firing power? -
-
@knowtheory@mattknox if someone has firing power, either they personally understand what every employee does or there is management. QED -
@wycats@knowtheory It seems that you conflate communication and management. I can let X know that Y is doing well without a manager. -
@mattknox@knowtheory if X has firing power and trusts you but not Y, you have informal management. - 9 more replies

@wycats what type of management are you referencing? Leadership or process? -
@chrislorenz@wycats Good question! There’s a great amount of assumptions to the term management. -
@rxgx@chrislorenz@wycats Why do we need managers at work but not at home or at a startup? -
@LeanStarter I kind of liked the framing in http://www.amazon.com/Accelerate-Building-Strategic-Agility-Faster-Moving/dp/1625271743/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1431359580&sr=8-1&keywords=accelerate+kotter … - a mix of both is useful - changes as you grow@rxgx@chrislorenz -
@wycats@rxgx@chrislorenz Inst knowledge is distributed throughout the org. Shouldn't decisions be made by those closest to the work? -
@LeanStarter depends on the decision, but I can't summarize the salient points from the book in a tweet :/@rxgx@chrislorenz

@wycats@BenedictEvans Is that in response to the rising popularity of holocracy? -
@eperea@BenedictEvans I tweeted it in 2013, so no ;)

@wycats Yeah. Wow, has nobody performed this combo before? Obvious in hindsight. Well done. -
@jorendorff I guess I did it in 2013? ;)
