What really ruined @britruby's chances was the speaker lineup itself. Nobody wants to be the first, the token, or the afterthought.

@wycats agreed. They had many offers but responded defensively. They could have defused it by acknowledging the problem and asking for help. -
-
@tehviking@wycats pointing out problems is not demagoguery. -
@sarahmei This is a matter of tactics. Having erroneous beliefs is not a moral failing. Defensive people do not do the right thing -
@wycats most organizers are mature enough to respond to criticism either by ignoring, or by acknowledging a problem and seeking help.

@wycats So is every talk I do inferior to every talk by those 15 men? There are diverse speakers in the same class as the people they had. -
@sarahmei Of course not. If you want to increase diversity, educate don’t demagogue. Their erroneous beliefs are nonetheless their beliefs. - 1 more reply

@ashedryden I didn’t see any non-accusatory tweets.@sarahmei -
@wycats Most people were making observations - pointing out the fact that the speakers are all white men isn’t accusatory, it’s fact. :/ -
@ashedryden It can be fact and accusatory. I’m talking about tactics. Inclusive rhetoric is better than accusatory rhetoric.
