The number one request I saw in #EmberJS2018 discussion was "let me just import from NPM". Turns out that wasn't hard to implement. I spent half a day and *bam*, you're welcome. Should work in any existing ember app:https://github.com/ef4/ember-auto-import …

I definitely appreciate the work being done here and am looking forward to using this, but...I *have* to ask: this is one of the most commonly discussed "missing features" of Ember. What do we need to do to make half-day features not take years to start?

In this particular case, I think there was a communication gap. People experienced enough to implement this are also experienced enough to underestimate how much other people want this feature. Listening better to each other is how we solve this metaproblem.

Like, I honestly only became aware that there was such clamor for this feature when all the #EmberJS2018 posts came out. It's Curse of Knowledge -- in my own apps I never felt the pain because I already know how to add anything I want with almost no effort.

Wow, that's...surprising. In my 3+ years with Ember `npm install` is definitely the thing I hear people complain about more consistently than anything else. Good thing we're doing #emberjs2018 then, the communication problems are more dire than I might have guessed.

I think that a lot of people understood that this was important. I've certainly mentioned it repeatedly. The explanation for why things don't get prioritized is often really mundane and down to the details of which qualified people are motivated and available at the right time.

I wish there was a way to proactively distribute the knowledge needed to be "qualified" for a lot of these things. I think there's a lot of people who are motivated and qualified-ish but need help getting all the way there (myself included).

IMO this is actually a *fantastic* case for implementing something like Rust's Reach program among the Ember core team.
