Gatlinburg is weird, though, as it's mostly hotels. So a lot of people have connections, even if they don't live there.

That's why I mentioned permanent population. I realise that there is a lot of transient / tourism in Gatlinburg.

Along that same line of thinking, the economic damage (infrastructure / property loss etc.) might be similar for the two (I have no data for this but probably within an order of magnitude). But the number of people's lives impacted homes, business, etc. will likely be larger here

You also have to include Magalia, which is about another 14,000 people. This is devastating. I don’t know if my house is still standing.
