    🚨The Kodiak Tide Gauge station recorded an amazing 67°F yesterday. This is a new statewide temperature record for December. The Kodiak Airport recorded 65°F. This broke their monthly record by 9°F! The weather balloon launched at the same time confirms these amazing readings.

    records have been broken in Japan. Hikone has 73cm of snow on the ground, making it the heaviest for December since records began in 1893⛄　 Meanwhile, , one of the snowiest inhabited areas in the world, has 213cm. Yet more snow is on the way.

    It isn't perfect but this is the only image I got with my 5D Mark IV of the "Quad State" tornado. I didn't have time to get it on a tripod and frame a shot so I braced against the suburban and tried to shoot 2.5 second shots handheld. ISO 2500 F/4.0 105MM 2.5 second exposure

    Perhaps a hot take: If you're going to spend 90k/yr on a private forecast contract.... just hire your own damn meteorologist. Someone you know day in and out, knows the needs and vulnerabilities first hand, and can physically be in your ops center.

    Topeka's sounding came in late and they nailed this one. Shift the scales, it's an all-time record by a mile. 82 kt wind at 850 hPa is absurd for any time of year. Beats all >48,000 soundings in this record.

    Astute watchers of the POD may be wondering what in the world the (normally hangs out in the tropics) is doing up in Alaska. We are here because it’s almost Christmas and Santa Claus needed help delivering all these buoys for all the good people
