Thanks! I haven't worked on an interactive demo yet, but it's on my todo. Part of the challenge is sourcing the tile data in a way that is consistent with the various provider's terms. It might boil down to people just pasting in their api key.

The soft shadows are so good! Did you know there's terrain tiles on https://www.nextzen.org/ that also have precalculated normals? It makes tile edges easier, but takes away the fun of doing the math yourself.

This is a really moved and vivid work. Can't fully express my love of it. I always think that shader is something magical and mysterious. Would you mind providing some suggestions for me that how to learn this powerful tool and the algorithms developed upon the language?

Great write-up and terrific renderings! I especially love the San Francisco in 2D and 3D. Is the code for how you did the Bay Area included in the demos? I'd love to reproduce them locally if possible.

Thanks! Not specifically, but the code for the tiling portion should be all that's needed to put that together. Just need to figure out the region you want, render it, then assemble the tiles.

Thanks, glad you like it! The state maps were done all in one go, no tiling. The state elevation and satellite data were placed onto a flat road map, so the shadows were a natural result of the rendering process. Hope that helps!
