Had a serious ant problem. Set bait and killed a thousand ants over a period of months, but they kept coming back. Finally i cleared their pheromone trails, resealed entry points, and theyre gone. Why is default advice to genocide ants when its not even effective?

My late father used smokeless powder to clear fire ants from our yard. He'd lay out piles of it near the ant hills. The ants see the nitrocellulose as food and carry it away to store in the nests. After several weeks of this, he laid out a final set of piles.

Once the ants started their trek down into the mount with the 'food' ... he lit the pile on fire. The ants formed a fuse down into their food store, which went up in flames as well. There were whistling noises as every mound in the yard started spewing flaming ant corpses.

i used Terro liquid ant baits. They couldn't get enough of the stuff honestly. we had 3-4 traps going with constant ant swarms on them. We even saw queen ants coming out to eat it, we killed at least 4 queen ants...
