Mine & Dr. Peter Doshi's contribution to the NYT series on fixing the #covidvaccines rollout: "It’s needlessly divisive to use pressure, shame, or mandates...Sixty percent of people are willing — and until recently, 60 percent was the herd immunity goal."https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/07/opinion/coronavirus-vaccine-distribution.html?action=click&module=Opinion&pgtype=Homepage …

@gorskon No. Not good at all. The side effects Covid are magnitudes worse than the vaccines. Which is temporary. 60 percent is way too low. People who can not be vaccinated because of autoimmune disorders and the like. Will be at grave risk.

Dr. Doshi has consistently worked to cast doubt on #vaccines, more than once in problematic ways. He has spoken against #COVID19 #vaccines. He served as an expert witness for an antivaccine group. This article, too, seems to overstate risks and understate need.

Yup. What the hell is @nytimes doing giving voice to Peter Doshi? At the very least he's an enabler of the antivaccine movement; at worst, he's an antivaxxer. Indeed, he's even spoken at antivaccine confabs.

Smearing scientists whose research may complicate your personal opinions or agenda speaks volumes about how much you value actual science.

First, he's not really a scientist, at least not one with any relevant expertise in vaccines. Second, it is not a "smear" to point out that Peter Doshi regularly spreads antivaccine misinformation and, because of that, is widely admired and quoted by antivaxxers.

This is perhaps my favorite example (courtesy of @skepticalraptor) of Peter Doshi going parroting an antivax line. I mean, for someone who claims to be an "expert" on vaccines, he doesn't even understand how the VAERS database or web browsers work.https://www.skepticalraptor.com/skepticalraptorblog.php/peter-doshi-vaccine-denier-conspiracy-vaers/ …

Peter Doshi is as much of a scientist as my cat. He's a historian, an honorable profession, but he lacks any credentials in epidemiology, virology, public health, microbiology, biochemistry, cell biology, or anything related to vaccinology.

And if you don't have enough relevant knowledge of vaccine science, you may want to try your hand at sports journalism 🏈⚾️

I am in the Pfizer trial. I experienced 3 hrs of chills that made it hard to sleep the night after 2nd dose. I don't know if the trial classified my AEs as "severe" or not but I can tell you from personal experience that they were uncomfortable but short-lived & better than COVID

I read the NYT Opinion piece by you and Peter Doshi and found absolutely nothing in there that justifies the negative views above. No one in her/his sane mind can negate the relevance of the points made in the article. So they take the easy way out : character assassination
