Yeah, no big deal, @PatrickRothfuss just retweeted the hedgehog.
Kingkiller is only my favorite fantasy series of the 2000s, and a massive inspiration for my novel.
Of which, if he PMed me an address, I would send him a hardcover.
And my heart wouldn't be pounding at all.

Elam province in Iran is named after the pre-Iranic Elam Empire. It's part of a large cache of objects found in the Temple of Inshushinak at Susa which later became one of the 2 capitals of Achaemenid Persian Empire. https://www.louvre.fr/en/oeuvre-notices/temple-inshushinak-cache …pic.twitter.com/In5u3BzlS7

Thank you for sharing this, it’s wonderful. Persian history ~ so much to learn.

So interesting. I am working on a book series which touches on the Persians from time to time, but at a later period; Parthian empire. It's more centred on Rome and the Celts, but wide ranging, and will cover the battle of Carrhae among other things.

Oh definitely. Right on the money. Already wrote a bit where an earlier Celt (druid) travelled east and met the Han. Another will make friends with the Parthians and others. It's a mix of magical realism and genuine history.

Sounds a bit akin to my ancient Mesopotamian magical realist novel, "The Cradle and the Sword." If your book is out now, I'd be glad to trade copies/reviews with you.https://www.amazon.com/Cradle-Sword-novel-Ben-Thomas/dp/0692922636 …

Actually if
@holland_tom likes this hedgehog, that would be a weirdly magical moment for me. "Persian Fire" and "In the Shadow of the Sword" are two of my favorite books, and have been huge inspirations for my own work. -
I'm thrilled to hear it! Thank you.
-
@holland_tom I'd love to send you a copy of my novel. "The Cradle and the Sword," just as a gift, from one history lover to another. PM me an address and it's in the post. -
Right...a different Tom Holland...
-
Righto, then time for a deathmatch. There can only be one at a time allowed.

Elamites are underrated

-
Totally!! Sumerians seem to get most of the attention, but Elamites were their contemporaries in cities, roads and writing. In fact, the Persian "Rosetta Stone" at Behistun is carved in three languages: Old Persian, Babylonian... and Elamite! That in itself says a lot.
-
Well as an Mesopotamia-fan I find that Egypt and Greece get all the attention. But yeah Sumer get much more attention than Elam which was an awesome civilization and a huge competitor or Mesopotamia !
-
Haha yes you're absolutely right. And primeval Central Asian civilizations like the Oxus (BMAC) culture are almost unknown in the West!http://thestrangecontinent.com/2017/04/30/great-empires-central-asia-part-1-primeval-beginnings/ …
