Workers at the Travis County Gigafactory endured unsafe working conditions, injuries, and heat stroke. Instead of receiving promised OSHA safety training, some workers were given fake OSHA certifications but no training.

NEW: When Texas gave Elon Musk $64 million to build Tesla’s new gigafactory, he promised to keep workers safe. Instead, many suffered heat strokes, serious injuries, wage theft, and retaliation. Now those workers are speaking on camera for the first time.

OSHA DOES NOT REQUIRE WATER BREAKS. ITS A MERE RECOMMENDATION. Workers have had to fight at the local level to win mandatory rest breaks. Workers die due to heat illness on the job. All we’re asking is for workers to not die, and return home in the same condition they left.

WATCH: This bill is critical because neither state nor federal law requires employers to give construction workers rest breaks. See for yourself.

HB 4673 would create an advisory panel of workers, public health, worker safety, and employer experts to create heat illness prevention standards, which will include education requirements, anti-retaliation provisions, and penalties for bad actors.

We're telling lawmakers that instead of attacking our freedom to have a say in how the places we live and work are governed, they should fight for workers by supporting bills like HB 4673. Take action: act.newmode.net/action/workers

Capitalists like Elon Musk never earn their billions. They get rich by sacrificing workers' health and safety and draining public money from our communities. Workers turn their vulnerability into strength through solidarity in open conflict with the boss.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is pushing a new bill that would negate any and all worker protections enacted by cities and counties. The kind of flagrant abuse that Tesla inflicted on immigrant workers would happen everywhere, all the time.

It is unacceptable that could not guarantee the workers to whom it owes its wealth a right so basic as returning home in the same condition they left the house. Proud of our friends at for not letting their voices be silenced.

Texas remains one of the worst states for construction worker safety. This is a prime example of how employees are expendable to them as they focus on profits. Elon has plausible deniability, but this culture starts from the top.

But organized labor and local leaders are already fighting back. Listen below to how lives depend on labor protections that cities and counties have passed. /4

Ivonne Gonzales, @workersdefense member, speaking against HB 2127. Rest breaks for construction workers are a matter of life or death in severe weather conditions. These breaks are one of many critical protections for workers HB 2127 would immediately erase. #txlege

When talks about entrepreneurship, he is really talking about corporate welfare, abusing his position by exploiting people who cannot afford to prioritize their health over their livelihood, and not creating decent and safe jobs.

Elon Musk makes his wealth off the backs of workers everyday. They deserve better. They deserve health and safety at work. He deserves to be held accountable for this violence.

This should be required viewing for all Texans. Texas politicians gave Elon Musk (a billionaire!) & Tesla $64 million of our money in tax breaks—what we got in return is worker abuse & exploitation.
