Under intl law, Paul Whelan is required to have a lawyer that represents him, not Russia. @JonHuntsman @SecPompeo should insist on that. Talking about a spy swap at this juncture is illogical - at this juncture we have no indication that Whelan was a part of / affiliated with
-
-
-
The US intel community.
-
The fact that his lawyer is repeating any “spy swap” language is at best irresponsible. It just parrots the Russian narrative that Whelan violated the espionage act.
-
So it’s almost like his lawyer is working with Russia. So maybe this was schemed to get Butina
-
Considering the attorney’s name is Vladimir A. Zherebenkov I would say, yes, he’s Russian. Did anyone read the article?

Thank you

I am really thinking there is a whole lot more to this story. Something smells funny here. Maybe he set himself up so there can be a prisoner exchange
-
Completely agree. There is much more to this than meets the eye!

-
How long until Butina is returned?
-
After her video taped testimony - this corruption is so blatant
-
That's still damaging to the criminal cases she would be testify for. Her video taped testimony to the Grand jury wouldn't be admissible because the defendant wouldn't be able to cross examine the witness.

@thespybrief@LouiseMensch@911CORLEBRA777@ericgarland Oh my. Did not see THAT coming. I wonder which prisoner? -
Maria Butina. That lawyer has Putin’s best interests at heart, not Whelan’s. We might give Butina back after we have taken every last drop of actionable intelligence from her. Will take a long time.
-
That's why they arrested him on false charges
-
I wonder how much he loves Russia now.
-
Indeed
