    Happy to get 2 of 17k tree seedlings the CA Forest Foundation is giving away now at the . Find them at the fair’s Forest Center (where you can also meet a barn owl). Grow in a container for a year & find the right place to plant it as a way to fight climate change.

    “Often, these loans make the difference in whether a farmer can afford to keep an operation running, or whether beginning farmers—often recent immigrants—can break into the business.” Have been told same from immigrant farmworkers who now run their own farm despite the odds.

    Between 1910 and 2007, black farmers lost 80 percent of their farmland, in part because they lacked access to loans or insurance. According to a new report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office, very little has changed.
