    Don’t get comfortable. Embrace and enjoy the challenging and the complicated. The tougher things get the more focused you become. There are no shortage of interesting things to do in your life and career. We all get the same amount of time, so what you do with it is up to you.

    We can help women in Japan by helping the men of Japan. Make parental leave policies progressive to encourage and allow men to take parental leave proudly and with zero backlash. To change things for women we need to change things for our men too.

    Catherine O'Connell launched her own law firm in Japan this year, the first non-Japanese female to do so, after 23 years as a lawyer (15 in Japan as in-house counsel/int'l law firm). Catherine is vice chair at She loves rugby, warplanes, and dabbles in making jewellry.

    日本の男性を支援すれば、女性も支援できます。育児休業制度をもっと進めて、男性も誇りをもって、誰からも非難されることなく育休を取得できるよう、奨励すべきです。女性のための改革には、男性のための改革も必要です。

    Find something you can obsess over, work hard, and enjoy the process. Meet and support other women. Drink plenty of water. Also, disregard other people's expectations (and advice!) for how you should live your life. 🇯🇵🇳🇿👩🏻

    Enough talking, more action. Support women balancing work and raising children & don’t penalise mothers for working flexible hours. Pay women equally and offer equal opportunities for advancement. Promote more women to management positions.

    Mari Saito is a reporter working on enterprise projects in Tokyo. She grew up in Japan & NZ. Her first journalism gig was covering cops in Philly. She’s worked for Reuters in DC/Tokyo/San Francisco. Before moving back last month, Mari freelanced in Berlin.

    議論はもう十分、必要なのはアクション！ 育児と仕事を両立している女性をサポートし、フレックスタイム勤務の女性が不利にならないようにする。女性にも同一の給与／報酬を支払い、昇進の機会を均等化させ、管理職により多く起用すること。

    Govt and corporate 🇯🇵need to work hard to create an environment so people can work and look after their family. At Horaikan, we have job-sharing and flexitime so that working mums can pick up kids from school etc. A shift in mindset is needed too.

    Akiko Iwasaki was born and grew up in Kamaishi, Iwate prefecture. She is a 2nd-generation ryokan owner and manager. Horaikan sustained damage in the 2011 tsunami but Akiko and her team worked hard to re-build and open in 2015. She hopes to welcome many to Kamaishi in 🏉

    行政や企業には、最も働きやすい環境を整備して欲しい。宝来館でもジョブシェアリングや、時短で働く女性など、コミュニティに貢献しているつもりですが、女性も働ける場を広げるため、もっと子供を預けられる施設を増やして欲しいです。
