    Working with the Quahog Bay Conservancy, we applied hundreds of pounds of raw invasive green crabs onto our vegetable plot and hayfields to fertilize the soils. Thanks to the Island Institute for this great feature about our innovative project!

    Organic dairy farming has a greater purpose than just milk: it's reviving the land & soil. Cows provide nitrogen fertilizer via their manure & urine; they knock down grass, building organic matter on which eliminates compaction problems & build up healthy soils.

    According to the USDA, more than 90%of the country's dairy farms have closed since 1970. It's no different in ME; the state has lost 250 dairy farms since 2000. Much of this is because farmers are aging & there's no one to take over.
