Of course one can’t condone the (alleged) behaviour of Oxfam staff in Haiti and elsewhere. But I do wonder how hard it must be to sustain “civilised” values in a disaster zone. And overall I still respect those who go in to help out, where most of us wd not tread.

And how keen on exploiting these failings are many people with many agendas. I wonder how many of the critics would do the jobs of these workers? And, if they did, how pristine would be their behaviour?

That may well be. But those of us who would never dare set foot near a disaster zone should just take a few seconds to reflect before throwing stones at those that do!

We're talking about rape and the exploitation of children, pretty sure it's safe to throw stones in this case.

Yes so far as we know. But there is a weird lack of realism in this. It is hard to sustain civilised values where Civilisations have broken down. Most of us don’t have to face that.

I go to those places, it was my job for over a decade, and I absolutely can condemn those men. (I do appreciate your point about the organization as a whole — please still support Oxfam for the great work it does, while holding it to higher standards than it has shown!)
