The press release said that the board approved the appointment unanimously - @wmarybeard did you really? Would love to know the logic behind such a... controversial choicehttps://twitter.com/britishmuseum/status/1407972580447985667 …

I know it looks surprising, but you know what I think about many of our shared priorities. Just dont lets judge precipitously ...
Unfortunately, the appointment of an elite white man with zero relevant qualifications sends a very clear message that diversity really isn't on the agenda.
Well at least we now know who George is.....pic.twitter.com/l2GE8JknAJ
Mary, why would you vote for someone who actively cut funding for UK heritage. It's disgraceful.
Why did you choose him? How was he better than other candidates?
You have to do this 'don't judge' 'don't doubt' you have just voted unanimously for a man who has attacked arts and culture in the UK. We are entitled to judge that and doubt your commitment. You want people to see the positive? Tell us what it is
"My behaviour has a lot of people asking questions about my stated commitments that are already answered by my behaviour..."
the sad thing is, this decision *absolutely* makes me doubt the BMs commitments to a more diverse museum. Tone/attitude towards to diversity starts at the top with high-level appointments like this. This is a retrograde and frankly reactionary decision - profoundly disappointing
The only diversity in the museum is from stolen and looted artifacts, which you had no right to.
