As a trained scientist and a self-taught artist, the strongest commonalities I see between science and art are the ways they teach and enable us to understand the world around us. Drawing hard lines between the disciplines denies their overlap. Many great scientists were artists

Note that impacts not only numerous students/collabs, but also 🇨🇦taxpayers! This guy was awarded $millions in the "prestigious" Canada 150 program specifically to come to 🇨🇦. Money that could have been spent on real Canadian research.

Our job as reviews is not to tell our colleagues to write the paper we would have written. It is to help them write the best version of the paper they chose to write.

Ecstatic to share our work: We engineered symbionts of honey bees to fight pathogens. Lots of people helped, including et al. Thanks to for the breathtaking photo. Thanks so much to and for guidance.

Hey Susanna! I've been running such a database for 5 years now (7k+ entries)! It's so fun to peruse and also people use the data to advocate for higher stipends in their departments. I would love it if you would point people there! Thank you!

On a positive note, they are doing a commendable job of trying to clean up the scientific record. See thread here:

Wow, saw this guy give interesting talks before... was any of it real? I feel bad for the students and coauthors impacted by this.

My dude, I've made my whole career off of faking data. I'm just honest about it and call it simulations!

    - there is a huge bias in where bacteria with the smallest genomes are found: mostly insects, and mostly as nutritional symbionts. This study suggests they are probably also common in protists, and may not necessarily be involved in nutritional provisioning.

    - these endosymbionts all retained or gained secretion systems, such as type 6 secretion systems. The function of these systems is unclear - possibly for interacting with the host (a lot of hypothetical proteins with putative eukaryotic interaction domains were also found).

A couple of other highlights from the paper: - one of the diplonemid species was found to harbor two, co-existing bacterial symbionts
