I knew I had blogged that line before. Got it from my Dad, where he got it, not sure, but it’s been around for awhile.
"Bigotry is bad for business. I guess we will find out if the Nerd knows that or not. And kids that are bullied are looking for a place where they can be free and get a little respect. If that place isn't Michigan, then shame on us for driving them away."

Yes to all the things.

Honestly it would be nice if everyone got a little something. As a single working adult (and there are a lot of us!) I don't get a thing from retirement repeal or the EITC.
Also, taxing the rich is really popular. Check into that if (or when) we fall short.
Just a thought.

Did you guys miss the guns in the MI Senate Gallery or what? Uttering the wrong pronoun can get you killed these days. Why so dismissive of the danger?

I think this actually reflects an erosion of trust. I don't know where things broke down, but actually don't think it's on the journalism end. I think there's more demand from principals to be protected from every silly thing they might utter. twitter.com/emilyjanelawle…
"Nine of the 10 victims were in their 60s and 70s and one was in her 50s..." And he was 72.
Time for me to drop my ageist assumptions on these things.
Next half hour, they did it again. More casual. "Oh by the way, 9 people dead..." tag to the local celebration-at-the-library story. jfc.
Oh look, more documents! *my cue to exit*
Local just got done doing a happy, fun, kid-filled pre-canned story on Year of the Rabbit! celebrations and had to break in with the Monterey story. Damn.

NEW: States with abortion restrictions or bans have lower wages, weaker labor standards, and higher levels of incarceration compared to states where abortion is protected.
Abortion rights are economic rights. Full stop.

We're creating states with radically different quality of life. And yes, it's important to people, especially younger people.
Recent reddit thread on moving from Columbus OH to GR illustrates it. Our freedom(s) compared to Ohio is a selling point:
“For this to come from a state from the Midwest” and not a “coastal Democratic state,” McMorrow said, will illustrate a “different way forward.”
*JB nods*
While MI is an interesting case in that voters drove the current progress - it's (very rapidly) happening all over the US.
While D orgs were behind ballot props, important to note that when asked about issues, stripped of partisan label, voters choose progress.
Fair maps. Legal weed. Abortion rights. Expanded voting. Transparency. Would have raised min wage, etc.
WE did this. Needs more emphasis.

Amazing things are afoot in Michigan. Now that Dems control state government, they're:
*Codifying LGBTQ rights
*Protecting election workers
*Repealing right-to-work
*Ensuring union wages in construction
Dems can model an alternative to red state madness:

Hard not to wish them the pain and suffering that they inflict on others, but then you become the very monster that you are trying to defeat. I call it the "Yoda Trap."
"Public servants" kissing the ring to get on the gravy train. And don't talk to me about emissions ever again.

The City’s curbside collection schedule will not be affected by the closures.

Lordy this game. 😮
Aside: I thought we were going to hit more deaths then births solely because of Boomers anyway, already baked in the cake without a huge influx, as it were.
As far as mass exodus goes, as media would have us believe, we’ve actually maintained a steady 10M or so for awhile now.

And they need to do the big things RIGHT NOW before the rightwing propaganda machine starts and/or a "mild" recession steals the momentum.
Go go go. We can't create an educated workforce overnight but we sure as hell can promote this state as the cool place to be.

America still is a world leader, just not in the way we like to think. Deeply cynical I know, but it's happening now, in real time.
Nature has ways of dealing with problematic species. Becomes a question of whether we destroy ourselves before it takes the food away, for example.
Realized this early on. Later came to realize there will be a great reduction in demand as our "leaders" kill us with disease, famine, wars, poverty, climate extremes, etc
Covid, "essential" workers, the result of declining life expectancy is a little preview of that theory.

Find myself wishing we had a Northwoods League team. Need to make the trip to K-zoo or B-Creek this year and check it out.
Looks real nice, but nah. If I want the major league experience (and prices), I’ll drive to Detroit.
Definitely see going to less games in the future. 😢

MLive, better on this story than the Freep anyway.

Annnnnd the Freep deleted that, so I did too.
