I still don’t understand why everyone blocks their CI on unimportant formatting lints

It may well be that one's sensitivity to inconsistent formatting/linting is personal and it doesn't hinders readability for all readers
I am certain that for some readers (I'm one of them), consistency helps
-
This is what’s so frustrating: “consistency” means nothing! You need to be concrete about what inconsistency is problematic and how that justifies the downsides of formatters and linters

My entire point is beyond a very bare minimum set of standards this does not matter. PRs shouldn’t turn red because they put an extra newline between statements, because they chose a different way to break up a function invokation across lines, etc
-
And sorry but I must say I especially detest hearing cliches like „code is more often read than written“ as if they were a contextually relevant argument

I was thinking of having something that runs tidy on the open prs so we don't have to wait for contributors to run it
-
I’ve already said in a separate thread (and on internals when blocking on tidy was first proposed) that this should be done by bors if it must be done, so that i can don’t have to merge the commits into my branch

If there are two ways to express something that are more or less equivalent and everyone agrees to have their tool pick one consistently, people who are new to the language don't need to know the less idiomatic way to read code on GitHub. Imho, that helps readability

-
Abjectly false. Different formatting of the same syntax is not difficult for new users to understand. Syntactically distinct expressions with the same semantics can be challenging, but formatters explicitly don’t do anything about this

It removes one layer of (perceived) unfamiliarity. How is this absurd? Not saying lints should block releases though

Then why have a naming and capitalization style at all? Why have 4 space indents? Obviously there's some level of linting that you find helpful.
