Type systems can only guarantee what won’t happen when the program runs, never what *will* happen, because in extremis the user could drop an anvil on their machine. Anyway this is why Rust doesn’t prevent memory leaks

That only applies for heap-allocated P though? If P is on the stack, then it'll be deallocated when the stack frame pops.
