@wincent no surprise. Optimizing for original file size, increases the entropy, thus it packs less and outweighs the initial gain.

@wincent better use a format with low entropy that's trivial to parse = packs well & use little cpu -

@p01 Makes sense but it is hard to balance. We want to optimize for packed size, not compression ratio.
