Over the past 28 years, @theGEF has provided more than $20 billion in grants and mobilized more than $100 billion to fund environmental and #cleanenergy projects worldwide, says Ming Yang.

"Why invest in China?" asks Ming Yang from @theGEF. First: China is a developing country with the largest global population, and second: China uses energy inefficiently, and it is the country with the most #greenhousegas emissions in the world.

In its promise to the Paris Agreement, China pledged to reduce fossil fuel consumption and cap emissions, but there is a gap of 4.1 giga tons between China's promises and their actual emissions, says Ming Yang from @theGEF.

@theGEF has numerous clean energy projects in #China, including energy efficient lighting, #coal mine #methane to power, energy efficient motors, #hydrogenfuelcell vehicles, and energy efficient appliance labeling programs, says Senior #ClimateChange Specialist Ming Yang.

"China is now experiencing its third wave of rural electrification," says Ming Yang from @theGEF. The first wave expanded fossil fuel power grids to provide electricity to rural areas, allowing 97% of people in rural areas to access electricity.

After finally bringing power to the last few rural villages in #China, the government is now trying to expand renewable energy transmission in these areas to reduce carbon emissions, says Ming Yang from @theGEF. This will be the "third wave," lasting from 2020 to 2050.

"One Chinese person living in an urban area uses 3 times the energy and produces 3 times the carbon emissions as a rural person," says Ming Yang from @theGEF. "This is why #China is trying to bring green power to rural areas, to prevent people from moving to cities."
