"When I lived in Beijing, I could never see the stars, but when I visited #Sanjiangyuan, the stars were bright and clear, and I could even see a bit of the Milky Way," says @larsonchristina from @AP, talking about her trip to the park in #China's Qinghai Province.

#China has conducted over 100,000 field surveys for their national park system, which is the "kind of field research that only China can achieve," says @larsonchristina from @AP.

Before the establishment of #China's new national park system, many of China's parks and nature protection areas were only "parks on paper," where poaching, electric fishing, and overdevelopment threatened wildlife and scenic areas, says @larsonchristina from @AP.

"There are 128,000 people living in the #Sanjiangyuan Park area or just outside." @larsonchristina from @AP talks about what will happen to local people under the creation of this new park in #China, including poor farmers, yak herders, and park rangers.

The "One Family-One Ranger Program" was designed to allow local Tibetan families to promote conservation efforts within #Sanjiangyuan park, as well as providing a source of income to these poor families, says @larsonchristina from @AP. They can earn up to $3,000 a year.

In the past, many families on the Tibetan Plateau have been forced to move, and many families are concerned that this may happen again with the creation of the #Sanjiangyuan park, says @larsonchristina from @AP. Many local families feel "uncertain about the future."

Many of the families that @larsonchristina visited during her trip to #Sanjiangyuan park knew Tibetan and a little bit of Mandarin, leading to a language barrier that has raised questions about communication between local families and the #Chinese government.
