Big difficulty for wastewater treatment in #China - combined sewers that transport stormwater and wastewater together. That means "grittier" water that is harder to harness.

According to @dgneighbour , in #Beijing "...people like landlords are supposed to monitor recycling systems. That means a lack of trust and monitoring." A more centralized water reuse system would be a solution.

Another aspect of wastewater is CLIMATE RESILIENCY. Storms and hurricanes mean overflooded wastewater treatment plants, meaning sewage flowing on the streets. Not great if you live there! From @dgneighbour #climatechange

"Almost 500,000 tons of sewage flow into the Liuxi River daily." - @dgneighbour, on sewer overflows in Shanghai, Guangzhou, and #China at large.

@dgneighbour - Water reuse can help #China with its water woes, especially in thirsty cities like #beijing. China has 20% of the world's population - and only 7% of it's freshwater.
