Meanwhile, I think iOS 6 maps are a huge step forward — if you ignore the underlying data errors (which is just data: easy to fix).

@wilshipley Yes, but I think for Apple to excel and beat the competition here they need more brainpower to orchestrate a data solution. -
@danielpunkass Agreed. BUT! Maybe they already have it—the problem is it’s contingent on feedback, which requires iOS to have shipped first. - View other replies

@wilshipley@danielpunkass Seems like if their plan was to iterate from feedback they would have built a much better feedback reporter. - View other replies

@mjtsai@wilshipley I think this is one of the ways forward if they want to accelerate with engineering. -
@danielpunkass@mjtsai@wilshipley The problem is, I don’t think they expected to need to solicit major feedback. -
@incanus77@danielpunkass@mjtsai I don’t have any data on way or another, and wouldn’t speculate. - View other replies

@wilshipley@danielpunkass@mjtsai Proven models for good feedback collection (@openstreetmap for open, Google for closed silo) exist.

@wilshipley@danielpunkass Apple has problems with areas that require lots of manpower. -
@wilshipley@danielpunkass That’s the *problem*. Apple is good at giving small numbers of smart people lots of leverage. -
@wilshipley@danielpunkass Plus “data” is an easy back-end fix if the system is well-engineered in the first place (which I’m sure it is).
