@wilshipley

How do you measure a man? Inches? Oh, ok, I wasn’t expecting such an easy answer. Anyhow, I write software and try to think about life. I have OCD and 3 cats.

      To everyone who thinks the Mac App Store makes installing updates quick and easy: http://quicken.intuit.com/support/help/updating-quicken-mac-2015-purchased-from-mac-app-store/GEN87349.html …

      @chockenberry But isn't this Intuit's issue because they're now bypassing the App Store?

      @rosyna @chockenberry The point is you can’t add paid upgrades if you’re in the App Store, so Intuit had to leave or go bankrupt.

          @wilshipley @chockenberry I don't see why that's a reason to stop putting updates on MAS for 2015.

          @rosyna @chockenberry Because they can’t offer paid upgrades to those people, so they might as well pull them off that build train?

          @wilshipley @rosyna @chockenberry True, but isn’t the problem that they removed Quicken 2015 from store but still want to update it?

        2. Wil Shipley ‏@wilshipley 21 Nov 2015

          @RealMrPippy @rosyna @chockenberry I’d argue they wouldn’t have removed Quicken 2015 if there were a reasonable upgrade path.

          @wilshipley @rosyna @chockenberry So we made a tool to let App Store customers upgrade to direct sales build, which we can update.

          @QuickenChrisC @wilshipley @rosyna At one point we did update for discontinued version by changing availability date and leaving it on sale.

          @chockenberry @wilshipley @rosyna Interesting! I know that used to work, but wasn't sure if it still does. Think I read that it doesn't...

          @QuickenChrisC @wilshipley @rosyna Yeah, it’s terrible that Apple hasn’t provided an official way to support discontinued products.

        @wilshipley @rosyna @chockenberry 14 steps to convert was due to my verbosity. Summary: download tool, click button. :)

        @wilshipley @rosyna @chockenberry But still need to support Quicken 2015 customers. No way to do it via App Store if app isn't for sale.

        @wilshipley @rosyna @chockenberry Quicken didn't leave the App Store. Quicken 2015 was removed for sale due to Quicken 2016 release.

          @wilshipley @rosyna @chockenberry As far as I know, you can still get security updates and paid-upgrades via iap.

          @wilshipley @rosyna @chockenberry I get them all the time on iOS and occasionally on MAS.

          @wilshipley @rosyna @chockenberry Do agree tho that a more traditional approach to Upgrades would probably be better..
