That is, "cancel culture" is what you get when people can't do politics through a broken political system.

*Nods* This is why trying to have all the power leads to long term destabilization for it has to go somewhere. Our instincts is to have all the power, but humans as social creatures rebel against this.

Also, everything is *inherently* political because everything pertains to structures of power and how humans interact with one another.

What pisses conservatives off is that liberals are better at the culture war and keep winning (primarily because our arguments are better). Some long time ago I read someone say "republicans are pissed because they have all the political power and none of the cultural reward"

Also: when a group of voters have virtually no economic power, but can be duped to serve the interests of capital, elevating their culture as the norm will serve as a smokescreen for the concentration of wealth.

Good to remember that 60% of Americans graduate in the bottom 60% of their high school class. In our current system, if you're born in an economically declining red state you're probably never getting out, and you'll know it by high school. https://www.emptywheel.net/2016/01/04/the-origins-of-totalitarianism-part-3-superfluous-capital-and-superfluous-people/ …pic.twitter.com/hZgWdCu3bU

This may well be 100% true, but I’m not so sure that the agents of cancellation would lay off if we had a majoritarian political system in which a center-left majority could simply pass its agenda.
