Futuristic art is now often called cyberpunk, as sci-fi and its sub-genres gets pop, which is great! But not all sci-fi is cyberpunk, as not all edgy graphic design or use of vivid colors is either; It's all part of it, but cyberpunk is more contextual than it is an art style :)
A common thing I cringe at is people calling anything low tech looking steampunk. Just like with cyberpunk it dilutes the original meaning for these terms.
Yup. Also the excessive kit-bashing of gears used as visual motifs just to make something look steampunk, without any thought about function, makes me cringe a lil XD
Lol yea, it's the same when I see cyberpunk art with excessive tubes and glowing lights on characters popping up at random without much thoughts given to their placements.
