    It's not often I read a technical book cover to cover, but that's what I've just done for 's . Excellent book. The chapters on distributed data: "replication", "partitioning", "transactions" are especially useful for backend system design.

    If you're running a reverse proxy, make sure the backend timeout is greater than the timeout on the backend server itself. This way you are able to distinguish between client and server errors, rather than sending 5xx for all timeouts from the proxy.
