C'mon @TeamYouTube, you're better than this. It is one of the hardest things to get to 100k, and it's a huge milestone for your hard-working creators.
One of the reasons it's a great way to verify people is precisely because it's NOT ambiguous (like on other platforms).

If you think too many people are verified, then at least be clear that you're now raising it to a specific number of subscribers. Not some opaque corporate language about brand and recognition.

Finally, if you want to talk about 'branding' -- I'm sure you know that in our current world, creators' names *are* brands, and it's unfair to act otherwise.
