Like @NadineDorries, my MP also shares his login details with staff. Does Parliament have no IT security policies? How prevalent is this really shoddy security practice amongst MPs? 🤔https://twitter.com/willquince/status/937326373978431490 …

Less login sharing and more that I leave my machine unlocked so they can use it if needs be. My office manager does know my login though. Ultimately I trust my team.

I’m sure you do trust your team but I cannot emphasise enough how bad a practice login sharing is. Besides the security implications, It ultimately makes you accountable for anything done on your machine using your login. Just ask Damien Green.

Alternately, it puts anyone with access, at risk of having a shadow cast over them if anything bad is done with the shared account. Anyone with real respect for their team members wouldn't put them in that position.

Your team should be able to do everything they need to (including, I’m sure, accessing your email) with their own logins. If they can’t, then serious questions need to be asked of whoever is responsible for Parliament IT security.

They can do those things via their own logins but I tend to save speeches, research etc on my machine instead of the one drive. It is probably a bad habit not locking my machine as often as I should but I trust my team.

Do your constituents trust your team, do they know you little regard to protecting their personal data, they do now! It really is not surprising that you think it's ok, but it is not.
