    Long-time Mozillian here. Nobody expected this exact outcome. From the inside it looks almost like luck—but it wasn't. The lessons I see are: - invest $$$$ in R&D a decade before you need it - hire PhDs - take on long-shot projects in parallel - retain your engineers

    Being able to program “on the side” is a privilege. Lives, kids, partners, comics, Xbox, are ALL fun side things. If it feeds your spirit and you HAVE TIME, sure, code on the side. If not, DON’T do side stuff AND feel ok about it!

    What's your opinion on programmers who are not passionate about programming, have no side projects, and only program at their jobs?
