    Earlier this month, I went to at NeurIPS. The talks were recorded, which is amazing. But I know you aren't going to watch 6 hours of video. Maybe you'll read 40 minutes of summary, though!

    Here's my thoughts on what happened likely last night, having spent about 20 years working at the intersection of tech and politics. TL;DR bad app design + no verification tools + inadequate governance structures prevented a quick resolution but we'll find out soon enough.

    It’s awesome that all Congressional Hearings are recorded and put on committee websites! I’d love to see someone turn them into a podcast, like is done for the Supreme Court (either just the audio itself, like or with commentary like )

    Mentoring is so rewarding. And you, can do it too! If you’re a grad student, reach out to your undergrad dept. If you’re an undergrad, reach out to your high school. Your experiences are valuable! Help the students currently there! Talk to them about career pathways.

    imo the best way to have the confidence to admit you don’t know is to have multiple sources of validation. When I ask a dumb tech question, I still feel confident in my policy knowledge or vice versa.

    The best journalists, regulators, prosecutors are not afraid of looking dumb and asking stupid questions. Don’t have foolish pride. Ask until you understand what the subject is saying! I can’t emphasize this enough.
