To be perfectly clear, I'm reluctant to *blame* ADF. In emergency situations stuff happens, and ADF has provided vital support. But it demonstrates how unprepared Australia is.

"The fire was ignited by heat from a military helicopter’s landing light ... Defence says it has stopped using the lights and is investigating the incident." If you need proof we need more to fight fires than the ADF, this is it. The capabilities are similar, but different.

Today's walk to campus. First, there was smoke that killed people. Then hail that killed birds and smashed through skylights (&cars!). Now uncontrolled fires nearby, 80km+ hot wind gusts carrying dust from the outback. Welcome to life in the Anthropocene.

For all security academia's talk about 'sleepwalking into a crisis' over Korea, SCS, etc., we nees twice as much on climate.

By 2028, we will have used up our budget to have a decent chance stopping global warming at 1.5°C increase. The numbers are, frankly, depressing.

At a more junior level, I think it's great that the rework of 's International Security Studies degree has increased non-traditional security options.
