Replying to @SidAlpha @TeamYouTube
playing devil's advocate here. But I'm pretty sure decisions like this were made about a month or 2 in advance, before the vox vs crowder ordeal, and they probably couldn't change it last minute. A decision like this surely didn't just materialize between now and the controversy.

I think you may be giving youtube too much credit. Kneejerk reactions are basically how they do everything nowadays. Sure this IDEA has likely been in the works, but adding Vox last minute to try and appease them is very likely.

but was Vox last minute? that's the real question here. Now matter how much of kneejerk youtube is, finances and investments do take some time. especially when it comes to grants, they can't just throw grants wherever/whenever they need to.

I'd say more likely than not. Giving a grant to TED is understandable. But a billion+ dollar company? Much less one that runs owns both Vox (the media component) and Polygon? And immediately after a major controversy they created? It just seems too convenient.
