of invasive alien plants in natural ecosystems can provide substantial social & economic benefits Benefit:cost ratio ranging from 8:1 to over 3,000:1 Benfits also increase over time as value of avoided impacts accumulates

Help us bring Australia’s wildlife back from the ashes! More than 1 billion animals have already died. We're setting up a fund to help re-forest, restore and re-introduce wildlife in the aftermath of the fires. Support if you can:

3/3 Yes conservation policy and action needs to adapt for climate induced range shifts - but this is complimentary to (not counter to) policy, science, and action on invasive alien species.

2/3 There is a big difference between a species (community) expanding its range due to anthropenic changes in climate, and a (single) species being transported 100's or 1,000s of KM into novel environments. See paper on 'Neo-Natives'

1/3 It is dangerous to link a policy relevant 'label' to an automatic management response (becoming very common in both scientific and popular press....🙁). Just because a species is an alien (non-native) does not mean it needs to be eradicated/managed!
