One big thing that’s different about this data space is folks having their data on their phone. It’s not out in the cloud, liquid and transactable under a secret DUA.https://twitter.com/nickdawson/status/1222299015489785856 …

I’m sure there will be apps attacking to create copies that are liquid - guaranteed - but the default state of this data is scattered. And one of the two app stores is already implementing increased review for apps that want to pull this type of data.

We clearly need extensions of GINA and other protections. But creating a scattered data space with lots of transaction costs that enables the patient doesn’t seem like increased risk overall. Not as if our data is “private” under existing system that denies us our data.

Google can and does buy your health data. Startups with lousy cybersecurity, too! Only one who doesn’t have a copy is you.

I am well aware of the risks. But we have to compare to the risks of the world we’re already in. And that world sucks. That’s what this change is about.

At least if we have our own health data, @BeLikeLight has a shot to self assemble a data collective.
