“Library statistics are important but the problem with this debate is, that lending numbers, downloads and foot traffic says something about the use of libraries but they don’t really say something about the value and impact that libraries brings to communities”

A recent change in cataloguing practice means we are now providing better access to Māori music and sound recordings. Previously, we assigned Māori Subject Headings (Ngā Upoko Tukutuku) only to physical resources — now we’re assigning them to digital resources as well.

Interesting thread on CC by and Research Gate.

this is a concern with CC BY licenses for academic content. Some proponents argue this is exactly what it should do: allow freedom of downstream use/business models. Others would prefer re-use is restrained by various norms, which are hard to define & unlikely to get consensus

Kid: Is this book for 5th graders?
Me: Are you a 5th grader?
Kid: *nods*
Me: Is that a book you want to read?
Kid: *nods*
Me: Then yes!
Kid: Really?
Me: You can read any book you want, no matter what grade you're in!
Kid: Oh my God, I need to get more books!!!

Shout out to the 10 year old patron who ordered her own ILL! I called to let her know it arrived today and she politely listened to my spiel about where to pick it up before saying, "Well that's simply splendid!" and hanging up. Don't ever change!

Hi Tom, we are currently working with the lovely LIANZA team to make their Library Life journal along with other content they have on LIANZA recollect searchable via digitalnz.org and DigitalNZ API. We will keep you updated.

I find it so interesting how hard it is to find old issues of Library Life LIANZA journal. Linked data, or just linked records would be very helpful.
DigitalNZ - nope
NDHA - nope
NatLib catalogue -nope
LIANZA website - closer
LIANZA recollect - gold!
