People still using Facebook doesn't mean they're okay with everything because of the monopoly. I stay off it at times but it means I'm cut off from significant civic, social and community flows. Schools put active shooter updates on Facebook. How are people supposed to stay away?

We get back to this point every other year. I've long argued against individual boycotts (individual choice is fine but it doesn't have political power) and always said reputational hits won't kill base. Just change behavior. Many don't put personal stuff there anymore. No trust.

There are industries that run on Instagram. There are political flows that are only on WhatsApp groups. A lot of politics is only on Facebook groups. Try to be a media personality without Twitter. There are big chunks of our lives that have no realistic alternative lanes.

And that’s just in the personal realm. My work in Ukraine wouldn’t be possible without Facebook, as much as it makes me cringe. I assume it’s similar for yours, not to mention that it *is* the Internet in many countries outside the UShttps://medium.com/@nina.jankowicz/quitting-facebook-is-easier-in-rich-countries-ec9de09de273 …
