Man the worst thing for me, as someone with ADHD, is medium-term delays with no alerting. Like if I'm using a program and it needs to do something that takes up to like 30 seconds, I can wait it out. And if it's gonna take an hour, I can schedule it and set up my own alerting

but if you want me to get started on something and then forget it for 3 hours, make it take like 5 minutes and give no alerting when it's done.

cause 30 seconds is short enough you don't forget about it. an hour is long enough you put it aside and switch to something else. 5 minutes is "oh I'll check twitter, then my email, oh I can work on Y real quick, ugh Z is broken, oh hi coworker, want to get lunch?"

My solution on OS X is to add an alert to every longish command using TTS, like: pingme() { $@ && say "good" || say "bad"; } pingme build-command When I hear it, I go straight back to work. (If I’m going to leave the room, I have it send an email to my carrier’s SMS gateway.)

The trouble with my (suspected) ADD workarounds is that I often forget to use them.
