I had to do this once with a police terminal running MS-DOS but DOS was treating all serial communications as text so any \t turned into 8 spaces so I had to find a binary which had no 0x09 characters.

I had to do this for my DOS laptop because I could not get a floppy to work. I ended up copying a BASIC UUDECODE, then using it to transfer Zmodem, then using that to transfer Kermit, then using that to set up TCP/IP with a PCMCIA Ethernet card, which is way nicer

Eeep. I remember serial console to some Sun kit about 20 years ago, an emergency console and transferring a kernel binary translated by perl & pack to a long series of echo statements. Eat your heart out, uuencode.

Pacing (massively-overmargined), transfer there *and back again*, and diff/checksum against original. Had to do this before, via a telnet connection, using a (typeable-in short shell-script). Approx 50 cps.
