There’s a missing third answer for the rigged test: that cats are far too prideful and persistent to just give up and ask a human to do it for them after 3 seconds
-
this cat is very persistent, but she does ask for help after a few unsuccessful tries. either for something specific ("get me up there") or just out of frustration. if i say "search" she tries again for a while then gives up
-
the mother of this cat utterly loathed taking care of the kittens and EVERY SINGLE TIME she needed something she'd just go and pester us until we carried them around, or found them when she's lost them, or something

My anecdata confirms this, my cat would chase for play me but only when I was walking away, if I turned and looked at him he would abort the chase and pretend nothing was happening.
