today i walked for about 1 km. after that, i was gasping for air, didn't feel my legs, had tunnel vision, nearly lost balance, and was simultaneously freezing and sweating. i love antidepressants. sincerely. anxiety before clomipramine was way worse than its side effects

I've seen some that make blood pressure drop while climbing stairs. Fainting + stairs = bad time :(

Any idea what the mechanism might be? I find it odd that not everyone experiences it.

these are all anticholinergic side effects. really fucks up your autonomous nervous system. as for not everyone experiencing it, well, no drug ever works exactly the same on two different people

Oof, yeah, clomipramine is one of the dirtier ones. Surprised (but happy) it works for your anxiety - I had only heard of it in the context of OCD (as being a fairly potent serotonin reuptake inhibiter) but even for that it's a mixed bag (paradoxical effects anyone?)

Neuropsychologist explained once that while ssri's and tca's can effectively be a "cure" for depression, they're not great with anxiety, and anti anxiety meds (benzos, etc) are more of a stop gap measure to get to CBT ideally, since they can make things worse thru conditioning...

please take me to the planet where ssris (or tcas) are a cure for depression, that place sounds nice

I know, right? Obviously a ton of asterisks after that statement, more like "we think they approach the mechanism of illness fairly directly, but because we don't know either the mechanism of action nor illness precisely, it's still a SWAG.

Hoping you are dealing with/side effects ok, there's really nothing quite like hot flashes that are so intense that those sitting nearby can feel radiated heat to really spice up one's life.

i'm 100% ok with the side effects. i was 100% ok with them even when i could barely walk one span of a ladder. language is literally insufficient to describe how much i suffer from anxiety when nothing alleviates it

Ugh. So sorry, that sucks beyond words. And it sucks that medicine is still so imprecise that we have to have side effects and meds that work wildly differently from person to person.

hey I'll take what we have. and at least medicine works better for all the other issues I have :]
