Nobody really worries about program speed because you don't notice that issue as often but it's not like programmers are somehow more adept at writing faster algorithms. CPUs are better so you don't notice it as much.

Throughput, often not, but (input) latency still matters a lot and it has only marginally improved overall, with many bad individual losses
