they say cats are playful when young and then aren't, "can't teach old [cat] new tricks", etc. but this isn't true when said about people, you can do a PhD at 80 if capitalism hasn't succeeded in draining all your life. on the other hand, if no one ever taught you anything but…
nope! OC in general is generally safe and effective for that purpose, and Zoeli in particular includes this in the leaflet. sometimes doctors say that you need the artificial period (not actually a period, it's withdrawal bleeding) but that's a lie.

back when OC was introduced they thought women would get confused about not having periods so they deliberately added placebo pills to induce something similar. it has no medical purpose.
-
that said, if you take OC continuously for many months you may experience mild breakthrough bleeding. in that case you should pause for a few days and you won't have it happen for a few more months.
-
oh, why the pause? that’s first I hear of it. I keep wondering what’s the difference with hormonal IUD or implants, you get a bit of bleeding there sometimes too but they never stop
-
so the idea here is that while you're continuously on contraceptives, endometrium grows (though slowly) and at some point it can't grow any more without shedding. it'd shed by itself but making a pause makes it faster. with an IUD or an implant you can't make a pause so there's…

no choice in the first place. these things aren't a hard rule, just what seems to work best, and fairly individual. find out what's better for you and follow that.
-
oh, now it makes sense. thanks!
