they say cats are playful when young and then aren't, "can't teach old [cat] new tricks", etc. but this isn't true when said about people, you can do a PhD at 80 if capitalism hasn't succeeded in draining all your life. on the other hand, if no one ever taught you anything but…

well i guess the answer is "nexplanon is $230 per implant [works a few years. designed for five but cat metabolism is different] and not covered by insurance, and sterilization is cheaper and everyone does it" but this answer fuckin sucks

so they work about as well on men as they do on women then. (only very slightly /s. tbh if those were my only options I’d rather be spayed.)
-
it really depends on the person, but, *yes*, I have considered actually sterilizing the cat and then giving her HRT, but progestin implants seem better, given that they already exist in required dosages and it's a once every few years thing and not every day/biweekly thing
-
also depends on specific kind of contraceptives. ever considered the ones with bioidentical estradiol and nomegestrol? these are generally better tolerated and as a bonus don't come with risks inherent to ethinylestradiol like DVT
-
I don’t think they have those at mannings? I’m not going back to doctors, last time I tried to get a prescription for anything but the generic I was told, actual quote, “ah, yes, it’s fashionable among young girls these days to pretend to have side effects”.

the trade name is Zoeli, not sure if prescription in your area; roommate didn't need any but she's not in the US. and yikes! i'm sorry, this kind of attitude is awful and regrettably common :/
-
this kind of thing is why i resort to explaining what should be taught in schools to strangers on the internet on the unfortunately high chance they have never been informed by a competent medical professional :/

male oral contraceptives for humans? what's it called? I couldn't find it with a quick search
-
progestins like levonorgestrel or medroxyprogesterone. this isn't a serious suggestion btw, they have more side effects in humans than in cats that would require management (notably osteoporosis), plus they would kill your sex drive, fertility, and erectile function...
-
but cats don't get osteoporosis from low levels of sex steroids for some reason i was never able to pinpoint to anything specific, and don't really care whether they have sex drive or not, so it works really well for them!
