At roughly midnight, Allen Silverstone, passed away. A great scientist, educator, anti-war organizer, and fighter of corporate & government poisons. And a loving father. I will miss you to the ends of time. I love you forever.

“Researchers found that ... the key difference between unsuccessful and successful psychopaths is that the former behave impulsively and irresponsibly, whereas the latter are able to inhibit or at least restrain destructive tendencies and build on their achievements.”

  4. Warren's case for growing social welfare is very storytelling-focused: "Your neighbor who has a home health aid who comes by, and is able to stay in her home – that’s Medicaid. Your friend whose child has issues with mental illness – that’s Medicaid."

  6. One way Dems could better underscore the depth of Trump's bullshit, and his contempt for his voters, would be by passing a CR that allocates $5 bill for the wall, but holds the appropriation in escrow until Mexico agrees to finance the whole thing, and makes a down payment.

Okay, so I had some thoughts about -- the big takeaways are here. Could go on for a hundred tweets about individual scenes, facts set straight, narratives connected, or brilliant bits like Lynne and Dick doing a scene from Macbeth in bed... Anyhow, THREAD!

Oh, also, Steve Carell was terrific as Rumsfeld. Someone please tell his agent this is the sort of Oscar bait he SHOULD be chasing. He's at his best when that quickness and gift for awkwardness aren't suppressed or ignored, but are able to enliven the character!

And maybe say a little prayer before bed tonight that, before he departs this earth, we can see Henry Kissinger strung from a gibbet on the steps of the Capitol, and Cheney, Rumsfeld, W, Feith, Wolfowitz et al in the dock of the Hague. ☮️❤️✊

That's why works like are so important. The more of us are awake, the more of us can, at the least, plant the seeds of future justice. So learn, educate, fight for justice when we can, and always think of futures yet unwritten. Teacups waiting to tilt.

...Yet I think that in this short, short blink of time we've been here -- we've gotten better. And the more of us understand the true shape of things, the corrupting and corrosive nature of unchecked power, the better we become.

Our short history as a species with organized society is largely one of blood and power, and truly evil people -- not the "mere" serial killers and rapists, but the ones who at the stroke of a pen slaughter, impoverish, and doom millions -- rarely face consequences.

My mom, who was raised in the left, who organized teach-ins at SUNY against the Iraq war... She was depressed by - being reminded that in the end, the f***ers won; they live and wallow in their own crapulence to this day. I have a different perspective.

Rip the corporate money, the lobbyists, the cost-plus and no-bid contracts, rip the funding from institutes backed by greedy scions of wealth, drain THAT swamp, the real swamp? And these creatures will die off, or move off to (literally) greener pastures.

Money, of course, is always at the bottom of things. These venal, callous, power-seeking creatures like Cheney, Rumsfeld, Addington - it's like moths to a light. As long as money gives you power in our society, and money serves those with money - we'll have monsters.

Oddly, I came away admiring Cheney more than I ever imagined possible. A horrible, ever more amoral ghoul, but goddamn - so disciplined, so focused, so relentless and shrewd. You admire him like Lee, or Nimitz, or Rommel - an impressive force, albeit for evil.

See: these bastards all walked. LIVED. Over thousands, MILLIONS of better -- or at least more innocent -- people. You can leave impressed, amused, laughing (that credit-reel cut-in is great) - but if some part of you isn't angry... You have a serious malfunction.

Director deserves real praise too. Always enjoyed his work, but this is far and away his greatest accomplishment. Every tool in his arsenal is perfectly deployed in a way that advances the story and deepens the horrifying, infuriating, pitch-black humor.
