That's good to know! Then again, everyone working on a certain repo will also have to know that. Having a gitignore made that easier. CI stages for that would be decent for feedback.

It's true that everyone working on a repo should know that, but a note in the README/internal docs could fix that. The problem is that this doesn't scale cause gitignore will end up containing editor files, OS files, and so on that do not have anything to do with the repo.

Yup, makes sense. It's like the rebase instructions in many http://CONTRIBUTING.MD files.
